The benefits of Yoga and Infrared Heat
I was introduced to the benefit of infrared sauna when doing research on detoxing.
After being diagnosed wit thyroid cancer and having to undergo radioactive iodine treatments I was increasingly aware of the long term effects radiation and toxins can have on your body. Prior to being diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in 2016, I had been through a series of blood tests with my naturopath to understand why I felt so fatigued.
Blood tests showed that I had the MTHFR gene. A gene that make the body unable to detox toxins properly.
During the time of my cancer diagnosis many questions raced through my mind.., one being “ How did I get cancer?”
I thought my endocrinologist would simply say, “ There is no answer, it just happens,” or “ It must run in your family.”
However, the response I received was “ It came from radiation as a child, or exposure to toxins.”
My mind raced with thoughts of “When and How?” I have always taken care of my health, ate healthy foods, exercised, and did not use drugs or indulge in alcohol. Which lead me to discover that because of the MTHFR gene, my body was not able to expel toxins like the average person without the gene. The organs that my body uses for detoxification were compromised, thus causing me to hold onto the toxins that can cause illness. The gene also kept me from absorbing enough folate for brain health, and the organs I needed to be balanced such as my thyroid and liver were compromised.
I never had radical radiation as a child except for going to the dentist for fillings during X-rays and even so that should not have been enough to cause me to have thyroid cancer at the age of 43. What I did discover is that the amount of toxins I was exposed to since a child in the beauty industry were attributing to the illness of my body. I suffered many years with hormonal imbalances, fatigue, allergies, and food intolerances. This was my body’s way of telling me it needs a break.
Once I had some answers on the “WHY” it was time to take action and accept that I needed more solutions to understanding the body I have and live in. I needed to honor it by taking better care of myself.
My focus became eating foods rich in Folate, non GMO, organic, and whole and natural as much as possible.
Along with that came mindfulness, yoga, muscle strength through barre and pilates, and a sweat sessions in spin class to expel toxins easier.
Taking time to detox and to become a critical practice in my well being. My practices led me to discover the benefits on Infrared Sauna sessions. I try and have them a couple of times a month and the way I feel afterwards truly is amazing.
I’m lucky enough to live in a town that has brought yoga and infrared together for mind, body and soul.
